宝戒寺（鎌倉）/ Hokaiji temple in Kamakura
鎌倉江の島七福神「毘沙門天」と白萩で有名なお寺「宝戒寺」。/ (Contents bilingual) Hokaiji Temple, a famous temple for Bishamonten of the Seven Deities in Kamakura and White Lespedeza.
この日は、鎌倉小町にある「鎌倉江の島七福神」の１つ「宝戒寺」(日本語:HP)に行きました。

■宝戒寺とは / What is Hokaiji temple?
この宝戒寺には、「鎌倉江の島七福神」の1神「毘沙門天」が祀られています。
宝戒寺は、天台宗金龍山釈満院円頓宝戒寺が正式名です。
The official name of Hokaiji temple is Tendai-sect Kinryuzan Shakumanin Enton hokaiji.
開基は、後醍醐天皇で、建武2年（1335年）に創建されました。
Founder is Emperor Godaigo, and was founded in the 2nd year of Kenmu (1335).
もともとこの地には、北条義時が小町邸を作り以降執権をしていたのですが、1333年に、鎌倉幕府が滅んだ後、後醍醐天皇が足利尊氏に、北条家供養を兼ね建立させたと言われています。
Originally, Hojo Yoshitoki had been in charge of this area since he created the Komachi Tei (House), but after the Kamakura Shogunate was destroyed in 1333, Emperor Godaigo made the Ashikaga Takauji build the Hojo family memorial place. It is said the above.
■宝戒寺の場所と参道 / The palce of Hokaiji temple and approach
場所は、鎌倉駅から鶴岡八幡宮の表参道を通って鎌倉八幡宮の鳥居にある三差路を右に曲がります。3分くらい歩いた突き当りにあります。通常、車の流れとしては、左折になるところです。
From the Kamakura Station, take the approach (Omotesando) of Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine and turn right at the torii red gate of its shrine. You can see the above place after a couple minute walk.
門前の両側には様々な樹が植えられた大きな石畳を歩いていくと、門があります。そこをちょっと行くと、入場料の支払い場所が左手に見えます。
After walking on the large stone pavement with various trees planted on both sides, you will find the gate. After a short walk, you will see the entrance payment location on your left.
大人：200円、小人：100円。
Adult: 200 yen, Child: 100 yen.
料金所の方から、「本堂にも入れますので、入ってみてください。」と一言ありました。

■宝戒寺 本堂 / Hokaiji temple Main Hall
そこから、境内に入ると、正面に、本堂が見えます。右手に柏槇の大木が見え、左手には、白萩が見えます。境内には、様々な花木が植えられているのが分かりました。この時期では、紫陽花が最盛期を過ぎたところでした。
You can see the main hall in front of you when you enter the precincts. You can see the large tree of Juniperus chinensis on your right and White Lespedeza on your left. There are various flowers and trees planted in the precincts. At this time, hydrangea had just past its peak.
コロナ時期なので、あまり参拝者は居ないようで、境内には、最初は私一人でした。後で、私より年配の方の方が1人見かけました。
At the time of the corona virus, it seems that there aren’t many worshipers and I was the only one in the precincts. Later, I saw an older person than me.
本堂に入ると、大きく3つのエリアがあります。（本堂内、写真撮影禁止）
Once in the main hall, there are three main areas. (No photography inside the main hall)
正面エリアが、 「子育経読地蔵大菩薩（こそだてきょうよみじぞうだいぼさつ）」、左手に「帝釈天（たいしゃくてん）」、右手に「 梵天（ぼんてん）」。
There are “Kosodate-kyoyomi-jizo-daibosatsu”, “Taishakuten” and “Bonten” in the center are of the main hall.
左のエリアに、左手から「聖観世音（しょうかんぜおん）」、正面 「不動明王（ふどうみょうおう）」 、右手に「毘沙門天（びしゃもんてん）」。
There are “Shokanzeon”, “Fudomyoou” and “Bisyamonten” in the left are of the main hall.
右エリアには、正面に「閻魔大王（えんまだいおう） 、左手に「五代国師慈威和上坐像（ごだいこくしじいかしょうざぞう）」 と「弘法大師（こうぼうだいし）」。右手に、「伝教大師（でんぎょうだいし）」。
There are “Enmadaio”, “Godaikokushijiikaishozazo”, “kobodaishi (Kukai)” and “Dengyodaishi” in the right are of the main hall.
■毘沙門天とは / What is Bisyamonten God?
毘沙門天（びしゃもんてん）(Wiki)は、インド神話のヴァイシュラヴァナとも呼ばれ財宝神されていました。その後、仏教における天部の仏神で、持国天、増長天、広目天と共に四天王の一尊に数えられる武神・守護神となり、四天王では多聞天として表わされるています。日本では特に、勝負事に利益ありとして崇められる。
Bishamonten is also known as Vaiśravaṇa in Indian mythology and is a treasure god. After that, it became a Buddhist god , and became a sacred god and guardian deity of 4 top Gods (Shitenno) along with Jikokuten (Dhṛtarāṣṭra), Zojoten (Virūḍhaka), and Komokuten (Virūpākṣa). Especially in Japan, it is revered as having a profit in a game.
毘沙門天は、下の図の右上になります。
“Bisamonten” is Upper right in the figure below.
■宝戒寺 境内 / Hokaiji temple’s precincts
「萩の寺」と言われており、本堂の向かって左には、白萩の樹が見えます。秋には、白い花を咲かせると思います。
This Hokaiji temple is called as the “Hagi Temple”, and you can see the White Lespedeza tree on the left of the main hall. I think white flowers will bloom in autumn.
本堂向かって右手には、ポツダム宣言後、内閣総理大臣になり102歳まで生きた、東久通宮(Wki)が植樹したと思われる「柏槇」(Wiki)がありました。
On the right of the main hall, there was “Juniperus chinensis” tree, which is believed to have been planted by Tokutsu-no-miya, who became Prime Minister after the Declaration of Potsdam and lived to be 102 years old.
■聖徳太子堂 / Shotoku Taishi-Do
本堂を出て、境内の周囲を歩いてみます。まず、本堂に向かって右には、「聖徳太子堂」（仏教信仰に力を入れた）。
Leave the main hall and walk around the precincts. First, toward the right of the main hall, you can see the Shotoku Taishi-do Temple, who enhanced Buddhist faith strongly.
■徳祟大権現堂 / Tokuso Daigongen-do
その横には、「徳祟大権現堂」北条高時を祀っています。
Next to it, there is a deity of Hojo Takatoki as “Tokuso Daigongen-do”.
■大聖歓喜天堂 / Daishei-Kangi-Tendo
更に奥には、比較的新しい建物の「大聖歓喜天堂」があり大聖歓喜双身天王を祀っています。
In the back, there is a relatively new building, “Daishei-Kangi-Tendo”, which enshrines the Daishei-Kangi-Soshin-Tennou.
本堂だけでなく、境内にも、色々な人物、仏像を祀っています。
Not only in the main hall, but also in the precincts, various people and Buddha statues are enshrined.
そのためか、宝戒寺では、「厄除け」「家内安全」「心願成就」「先祖・水子供養」なんど様々な祈祷をしてもらえるそうです。
That’s why, at Hokaiji temple, there are various prayers such as “avoidance of evils,” “safety of the family,” “fulfillment of heart desires,” “ancestors and dead children before birth,” etc. for available.
■地蔵尊墓碑と梵鐘 / Jizoson Tombstone and Bell tower
続いて、本堂に向かって左手には、右手に樹々、「地蔵尊墓碑」を見ながら「宝篋印塔」に出ます。その奥には、「梵鐘」があります。
Then, if you go to the left area of the main hall over seeing so many kind of trees, you will see the “Jizoson Tombstone” and then go out to the “Hokyo-Into”. There a Bell tower, “Bonsho” behind it.
■まとめ / Summary
「宝戒寺」は、白萩で有名なお寺。鶴岡八幡宮のすぐ傍にあり、鎌倉宮に行く途中に立ち寄ることもできる。「鎌倉江の島七福神」のひとり「毘沙門天」という勝負事の神様に肖れば、人生勝ち切れるかもしれないですね。
“Hokaiji temple” is a temple famous for White Lespedeza tree. It is right next to Tsuruoka Hachimangu, and you can stop by on the way to Kamakuragu. If you admire the god of the game “Bisamonten”, one of the “Kamakura Enoshima Seven Lucky Gods”, you may be able to win your life.
